Manage the First Hour of Your Workday for Motivation at Work

Here are ways to use your office time wisely, plan the first hour of your workday, and generate motivation at work:

1. Check your to-do list and calendar.

It’s important to take at quick look at these to know what’s ahead. Missing any meetings or deadlines can cause stress and would likely ruin your entire day.

2. Write the things that require thought.

Research finds that willpower is at its peak early in the day. The first hour of your workday is the perfect time to write thoughtful emails, proposals or any other disciplined material.

3. Greet co-workers.

Take the time to greet everyone first thing. It builds rapport and camaraderie.

4. Try not to hold meetings first thing.

It’s said that it’s better to do projects that require focus at the high-energy times of the day, and to put meetings at low energy times of the day. Most people feel more energized in the morning, so try to hold meetings mid-afternoon.
