Senate Unanimously Confirms New Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit

On February 7, 2013, President Obama nominated Raymond T. Chen and Todd M. Hughes to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Chen was nominated to the seat vacated by Judge Richard Linn who took senior status on October 31 ,2012. Mr. Hughes was nominated to the seat vacated by Judge Cutis Bryson who took senior status on January 7, 2013. Mr. Chen currently serves as the Deputy General Counsel for Intellectual Property Law and Solicitor for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He has held this position since 2008. Mr. Hughes is Deputy Director of the Commercial Litigation Branch of the Civil Division at the United States Department of Justice. He has held this position since 2007. On August 1, 2013, the Senate unanimously confirmed Raymond T. Chen for a seat on the Federal Circuit. Prior to becoming Solicitor and Deputy General Counsel at the USPTO, Chen represented the USPTO's decisions in federal court, briefing and arguing numerous cases before the Federal Circuit in his capacity as Associate Solicitor. Chen's notable Federal Circuit arguments include In re Bilski, In re Nujiten, and In re Comiskey.
