Why Do I Need a Website Development Agreement?
If you hire a person or company to develop some or all of your website, then a clear and concise website development agreement can help ensure you get what you pay for and intended. Over the years, we have helped numerous start-ups with preparation and negotiation of a website development agreement.
The Importance of a Well-Written Website Development Agreement
A website development agreement will outline the key benchmarks of the project, specify timelines and deliverables, as well as payment expectations. Most importantly, a strong website development agreement can ensure you will own all the intellectual property related to the website, and that the developer will not use a third party’s intellectual property in your website.
Don’t Fall For DIY, Free, or Generic Online Forms
Some companies try to minimize website development agreement costs by copying documents found online or turning to cheap online services hoping they have done things correctly. The danger with cookie-cutter forms or “do it yourself” is that, if your website development agreement isn’t comprehensive and clear, it may not adequately protect your specific interests.
